Castle Kitchen TV Series

A series of documentaries exploring the world of ancient Greek cuisine. Starting our journey in 800 BCE we will travel through the ages highlighting how important the influence of Greek Cuisine has been, and still is, in today's Mediterranean diet.

With the help of ancient writings, we will try to recreate 2000 year old recipes and experiment with cooking techniques as documented by Archestratus credited as the father of gastronomy, Athenaeus with his work ‘Banquet of the Learned’ and the Apicius one of the earliest known cookery books of ancient times.

From the writings of Hesiod, we attempt to explore his accounts of everyday life and follow his instructions of early agriculture of the ancient Greeks.

A challenging quest to discover more about the daily life and search for the taste and flavour of ancient Greece.

The History of Gastronomy

The Castle Kitchen team will explore the origins of gastronomy and its inherent connection to poetry and philosophy. A story of ancient Greek cuisine and its influence on modern gastronomy which many of us are not familiar with; ‘Rules of the Stomach’.

Cooking Techniques and Implements

Our emphasis is to recreate a legitimate cooking environment without the use of modern cooking appliances and kitchen aids. In a world of smoke and fire, we explore and recreate ancient techniques, experimenting with implements from the various time periods.
